The Seeds We Sow: Building a Generation of Harmony
I recalled an incident when I was 6 years old. I used to live in quarters on upstairs and there used to be this family lived downstairs. Sometimes, my brother and I would go to their place to play post my school time.
It was on one those play hours that I happened to visit their house and was busy playing near the entrance. I suddenly heard few sounds that seemed like a ball being hit on the floor. After few seconds I noticed these sounds nearing my ear and then when I turned around I've witnessed Uncle physically handling Aunt (residents of that house) by kicking and dragging her on the rocked and mud ground all the way from backyard towards the entrance of the house.
Her Saree was half undraped, her head was bleeding and hands were wounded. She was dragged onto the road of common passage where every eye could clearly witness. Uncle made aunt stand on the road forcibly and went inside the house then came back with inflammable liquid and a match box to set aunt ablaze. He had almost poured out this liquid on her and few people from our neighbour-hood arrived and stopped uncle.
In all this act his son who happened to be my friend stood without any expression but expressed normalcy.
Few days post this incident, I have witnessed him,who was just 7 yrs old ,verbally abusing girls in his class and also hit many girls if they refused to lend him a pencil or a book or any thing when he asked. He also took a bottle of water and poured out on other girls and told them that he would set them ablaze without any specific reason.
Recalling this inerasable incident from my childhood, dis-respectable nature of a man to a woman, who is his wife and a mother, an unusual nature from a little lad in his tenderness,
I could fathom that many men and boys, who happened to be part of criminal offenses against women , picked their cruelties from their upbringing. Such acts were not considered wrong doings to them right from their very tender age becoz their parents behaved that way indirectly telling the child that it is no wrong. And it is no surprise when such kids commit crime when grown up without any guilt conscience.
Isn't it high time that we as responsible sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers and also co-family members be in harmony and sow good seeds into our younger one's hearts to see better generation with right values and ethics?
Can we not sow seeds of equality by just living equality-centered life becoz children learn better when demonstrated rather than said.If inequality standards continue then we are the creators of endangered species to explode our beautiful earth corrupting the harmony and empathy among ourselves.
